Star-war enters the E-commerce Platform as Amazon Ropes in A-listers for promotion

New Delhi: The E-commerce platforms are all geared up for a star-war as Amazon ropes in the A-listers of Bollywood to promote Amazon Prime Video and its upcoming Prime Day. It is for the first time the e-commerce platform has roped in Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan and few others since it began operations in India.

Amazon has started promoting its Prime Video and Prime Day which features Rani Mukherji, Varun Dhawan and Salman Khan. The Bollywood actors are urging viewers to ‘keep smiling on Prime Day’ and watch Prime Video.

Amazon’s Prime Day has kicked off from today and will continue till tomorrow. A virtual reality experience, that would include setting up of ‘experience zones’ in malls across the metro cities, has been introduced by Amazon. In these ‘experience zones’ videos featuring celebrities will be shown where these celebrities will be promoting the platform.

Notably, there are over a few million Prime subscribers in India, making it the fastest growing market for Prime globally. In the last one year, the Prime customers have doubled in India.

Ranbir and Shraddha Endorsing Flipkart

Last month, Flipkart announced Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor as its brand ambassadors. The e-commerce platform has rolled out a film featuring the stars offering ‘kidults’ fashion advice. The campaign can now be seen across television, digital, print and outdoor medium.

Shoumyan Biswas, Chief Marketing Officer, Flipkart said, “Bollywood celebrities are one of the leading inspirations for fashion and so it was natural to associate with two biggest fashion icons as brand ambassadors for Flipkart Fashion. The campaign reiterates Flipkart as a fashion destination.”

Huge Media Budget of E-commerce Companies

Vijay Subramaniam, Chief Executive of talent management firm Kwan, the agency representing Ranbir Kapoor, said, “E-commerce companies have fairly sizeable media budgets, compared to say, a traditional consumer-facing company, and hence the campaigns are more visible.”

Ranbir Kapoor is one of the highest paid celebrities in the country and as per the information available, he has signed a multi-year deal with Flipkart.

Star-war in E-commerce Industry

This is not for the first time that any e-commerce company has roped in the Bollywood celebrities as their brand ambassador or for promotion. It should be noted that Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, separately, co-own brands with Myntra.

As a campaign, Myntra’s flagship ‘end of reason sale’ was pitched by Deepika and Hrithik to a lot of Myntra customers over recorded phone calls. Both the stars sell their respective brands – All About You and HRX. Interestingly, Myntra has also been using both the stars to pitch products through various television ads and social media campaigns along with recorded calls.
