To counter Walmart-Flipkart, Amazon plans for mega sale next month

New Delhi: In order to counter the competition from rivals Walmart-Flipkart, Amazon is planning to integrate the Indian operation with the American headquarters for the Prime Day sale. The Prime Day sale is the global flagship 30-hours sale which offers huge discounts to its subscription based Prime shoppers across all Amazon operations.

As per the sources aware about the development, the Prime Day sale is planned between 7th and 15th July 2018. The mega sale will come up with huge and exciting offers so as to make competition tough for Flipkart and get more Prime memberships. According to a rough estimate, this sale would bring a month’s revenue in 30 hours.

The competition is very extreme in the Indian retail market which is estimated to be around $672 billion. Both, Amazon and Walmart, are eyeing it and since Walmart has picked up 77 per cent stake in Flipkart for $16 billion, Amazon had to come up which would turn the heat on.

For the Prime Day sale, the online retailer will be focusing on the private labels across categories where maximum deals will be offered. Apart from this, it has to fill up its warehouse across the country so as to deliver the products on next day.

It is also expected that Prime Wardrobe – the tech-based trial room of Amazon, might also be introduced in India during the Prime Day sale. Prime Wardrobe service is being given in US where the company brings the fitting room to the doorstep of the customer to try the fashion line before purchasing. Amazon India is also updating its stock pipeline for Prime Day sale.

According to a top seller at Amazon, “The Prime Day sale has already made its debut in India last year but this year with Walmart’s entry in India, the company will integrate the sale with global operations so as to set similar benchmarks. This will also be an opportunity for the company to convert customers to Prime customers.”

As of now the Amazon Prime subscribers in India are over a few million.
